A digital signature certificate online is another name for a DSC or ID. The authority should have an active digital certificate in order to sign official documents digitally. A certificate authority will issue a digital certificate. One can either buy a DSC online or apply for a DSC online from third party certificate authorities.   • Three classes of DSC as issued by certifying authorities, are valid in India:
  • Class-l Certificate, for individual/private applicants used to secure the email communication
  • Class-ll Certificate, for directors/signatory authorities of companies used for e-filing returns, online registrations, attestations, etc.
  • Class-lll Certificate, for vendors to use in online participations/bidding in e-auctions/e-tenders

Required Documentation For DSC Registration

DSC is necessary in India for both Indian citizen and foreign nationals for various official/commercial/legal purposes. To apply for DSC, these documents are required:

For Indian Citizens/Residents:

  • Passport Size Photograph
  • Applicant’s communication details, such as, phone number, email, etc.
  • ID Proof: Copy of PAN Card/Passport, etc.
  • Addresss Proof: Copy of Voter ICard/Aadhaar Card/Driving Licence/Electricity Bill/Bank Statement (latest), etc.

For Foreign Nationals:

  • ID Proof: Attested copy of Passport/VISA/Resident Permit Certificate
  • Applicant’s communication details, such as, phone number, email, etc.
  • Address Proof: Passport

Where, attesting authorities are Embassy of Native Country, Apostilized by Native Country, after Public Notary (if the country is in Hague Convention), Consularized by Native Country, after Public Notary (if the country is not in Hague Convention)
